You can use the same ideas or techniques in many different ways. My most popular video is a short explanation on how to start attaching t-shirt yarn into a round mat using crochet stitches. (You can see the video here.) Now I decided to use that same technique to create Christmas tree decorations. They look Christmassy made out of Christmas prints or shiny material and glitter yarn.

What you need for each ornament

  • Strip of fabric 56 cm (22 in) long and 2-3 cm (about 1 inch) wide. I used Christmas prints because they have Christmas colours in them.
  • About 10 metres (11 yards) of glitter yarn
  • Crochet hook to go with your yarn (I had a 2.5 mm hook)

Notes about the tutorial

The circle is started in the middle. You start by crocheting a single crochet (US term, double crochet in British terms) around the start of the fabric strip. Then chain 2 and skip the length of the 2 chain stitches before the next single crochet. You continue with 1 single crochet, chain 2 until the work in about 5 cm (2 inches) long. Then it is turned into a circle and you begin crocheting the single crochets into the previous single crochets.
